Memories of lounging on the beach soaking up the sun seem to be long gone, and fall looks like it’s here to stay. Before the chill of winter takes over the city of New York, enjoy the crisp autumn air and visit some of these places for apple picking around NYC. While some may require a bit of driving, a little road trip out of the city is always a good thing.
Apple Ridge Orchards
Located in Warwick, NY, the best feature about the Apple Ridge Orchards is their “dwarfed trees” for easy pickings—much to the appreciation of all those who consider themselves short. Apple Ridge Orchards is rustic and the drive is scenic, making it a nice departure from the hustle and bustle of NYC. For $28 per person, you will walk away with half a bushel of hand-picked apples. Apple Ridge Orchards boasts more than 20 different types of apple trees to handpick your fruit. Apple pie will never be the same after you make a trip out to Apple Ridge Orchards.
Hours: Saturday, Sunday, and all holidays open to the public 9am to 6pm.
Masker Orchards
Masker Orchards has been around for over a hundred years, making it a staple among the apple-picking community. Located in Hudson Valley, Masker Orchards sits on 200 acres of land with breathtaking views of nature. Considering how large Masker is, visitors can actually drive around and choose the perfect tree for picking. Pick your perfect batch, and head to the Country Store for some fresh jams, jellies, and local honey. Legend has it Masker Orchards makes the best freshly squeezed apple cider. Admission to Masker Orchards is free, and a bushel of apples is $26.95.
Hours: Masker is open to the public from 9am to 5pm seven days a week.
Applewood Orchards and Winery
Family-owned and operated Applewood Orchards and Winery are where wonderful memories begin. At Applewood you pay only for the apples in which you purchase, which is unlike most apple farms that charge per bushel. Before you head to Applewood, be sure to download their app “Them Apples” for all the information you need for a good time at the orchards. Did we mention there’s an onsite winery at Applewood?
Hours: Open daily from 9am to 5pm.
