Healthy Frozen Treats in NYC

Yes, we know it’s hot, and nothing beats a sugar rush on a sweltering summer day. While the thought of indulging in a classic soft-serve cone or one of Dominique Ansel’s frozen s’mores everyday sounds like a great idea, it isn’t quite as good for our health–or the waistline. Here are four healthy treats in New York City where a little guilty pleasure is both tasty and (relatively) good for you:

Il Buco Alimentari
Before you begin exploring this classic Italian restaurant-market hybrid, you must stop at the front counter which serves as their Gelateria. While flavors like salted caramel and chocolate-peperoncino are tempting, we recommend going for the equally delicious seasonal fruit sorbets or granita, which are fat free compared to their gelato counterparts. With flavors like almond and local strawberry, we promise you won’t miss the fat!

Paletas from La Newyorkina
This paleta, or Mexican style ice-pop, from La Newyorkina is about as healthy as they come. Owner Fany Gerson is dedicated to making the pops with the best ingredients, and never uses artificial flavorings or colorings. Made with seasonal fruits from NY farmers and small local businesses in Mexico, the ice pops come in single, double and even triple flavors like strawberry, mango, and passionfruit. We’ll have the Rainbow paleta please! Grab a paleta along the Highline or at any of the Big Gay Ice Cream shops, where they are stocked year round.
