Beyond the PSL: Pumpkin EVERYTHING in Midtown

The PSL (pumpkin spice latte) is the talk of every town, Midtown Manhattan included. But today, we’re talking about more than just the seasonal coffee. We’re scoping out the best of pumpkin spice everything in New York City. Are you ready for a pumpkin spice overload? Answer: yes.

Beer and Cider

Doc’s Pumpkin Cider or River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern Imperial Pumpkin Ale at The GingerMan

Don’t let the name fool you, The GingerMan isn’t partial to all things ginger. Rather, it’s a Midtown spot known for its large selection of beers on tap. This charming bar in Midtown serves Doc’s Pumpkin Cider, a seasonal twist on traditional cider, on draft. The GingerMan also pours River Horse Hipp-O-Lantern Pumpkin Ale—brewed with actual pumpkin puree and spices.

Breakfast

Pumpkin Waffle at Sarabeth’s

As any fashionista knows, shopping in the Fashion District requires a boost of energy every few hours. (A hunger-induced purchase is never a good idea.) Stroll up Fifth Avenue towards the Central Park South location of Sarabeth’s, the 32-year-old New York brunch institution. It’s a perfect spot to rest up between shopping sprees. We love the pumpkin waffles—a delicious mix of sweet and savory, topped with sour cream, raisins, toasted pumpkin seeds and honey.

Pumpkin Pancakes at Alice’s Tea Cup

Pumpkin waffles and pumpkin pancakes are so good, that we couldn’t bear the thought of having to choose. So, we didn’t! Why have regular pancakes when you can have pumpkin pancakes? Alice’s Tea Cup, a darling café with Lewis Carroll decorations and fairy costumes for children, serves pancakes made from pumpkin purée with nutmeg and cinnamon.

Sweets

Pumpkin Pie Cake Truffles at Momofuku Milk Bar

The pumpkin pie cake truffles at Milk Bar are seriously addictive—partly because they are so tiny and easy to pop. Spiced pumpkin cake, blended with fresh pumpkin rolled in white chocolate and coated in spiced pie and graham cracker crumbs are little pieces of heaven.

Coffee and Tea

Pumpkin Spice Latte at Starbucks

While we are usually lovers of the smaller, mom and pop style coffee shops, Starbucks made the PSL the big deal that is. And after a very public pumpkin shaming, Starbucks has returned to using fresh pumpkin in their PSL’s. If you’re feeling like going the extra mile, order the Pumpkin Spiced Bread as well. Ask your barista to warm the loaf.

Worth the Trek

These pumpkin-spiced treats aren’t in Midtown, but they are worth a visit if you don’t mind a quick ride on the subway or in a taxi cab.
