Times Square in New York City is famous around the world for its annual New Years eve celebration. Lights, decadence and the ball drop are all followed by millions as a grand, American tradition. Another New Years commonality is the New Years Resolution. These two annual traditions, less famously, meet every year at Good Riddance Day. This cathartic event brings a crowd to Times Square a couple days before the ball drops to take part in a ritual of throwing away their worst memories. Whether it’s a physical note, or relic, or parking ticket, or whatever, participants of the event can throw their bad memories into a large mobile shredding truck. Good Riddance Day is an opportunity to take part in a less mainstream NYC new years activity while still connecting with countless strangers.
