Best Window Displays of the Season

Lord & Taylor featured window display

Holiday season in NYC means that department stores are dressing up their window displays in elaborate Christmas displays. These are the ones that have outdone themselves this year.

A Few of Our Favorite Things – Lord & Taylor

Our neighbors at Lord & Taylor couldn’t decide on a theme for this year’s coveted window display, so they opted to depict a few of their favorites, such as a gingerbread kingdom, a cuckoo clock and a sweets shop. We’re absolutely loving the “holiday countdown” window: an elegant mansion with 24 windows, which count down the days until Christmas Eve like a super-fabulous advent calendar. Each opened door reveals an iconic New York City scene.

A Charlie Brown Christmas – Macy’s Herald Square

Macy’s is the birthplace of holiday window displays—theirs started back in the 1870s. This year, the store is paying homage to the 50th anniversary of Charles Schulz’s classic “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” with the entire Peanuts gang joined by 2,000 pounds of glitter and fake snow. The display, more than a year in the making, is especially timely with The Peanuts Movie in theaters now. Make it a double header, and see the movie afterward?

A Brilliant Holiday – Bergdorf Goodman

If you’ve ever wondered what seven million Swarovski crystals looked like, you’ll find your answer at this dazzling display. One fantastical window scene titled “The Crown Jewels” boasts two sparkling knights in shining armor, life-size lions surrounding a Queen enclosed in a massive red velvet-lined jewel box. When can we move in?

Heritage of Luxury – Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany & Co. is the definition of luxury—and the Fifth Avenue flagship store’s display does not disappoint. Not only are the windows dripping in diamonds, the store’s facade is decorated in an 106-foot string of illuminated crystals. The smaller windows showcase the wonderland of diamonds and keepsake jewelry boxes we’ve come to know and love.

Star Wars for the Holidays – Bloomingdale’s

Bloomie’s new display left us wondering if Santa might want to reconsider his usual mode of transportation this year—that famous jingling sleigh—and opt for a spaceship instead. The store unveiled a Star Wars-themed set of windows just in time for the sure-to-be box-office hit Star Wars: The Force Awakens, featuring original cast members Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill alongside fresh faces like Academy Award-winner Lupita Nyong’o. Diane von Furstenberg, Cynthia Rowley and Giles Deacon helped bring characters such as C-3PO and the Stormtroopers to life.
