A Fine Frenzy: Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in NYC
While many New Yorkers will be mourning the close of yet another summer in the city, thousands will have their thoughts focused on Spring/Summer 2015. Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week will make its debut at Lincoln Center on September 4-11, 2014. Top designers will share their upcoming collections for the first time this season, much to the appreciation of fashion enthusiasts everywhere.
Always a favorite, Rebecca Minkoff will hit the runway on Friday, September 5 to debut her new Spring 2015 line. Across town in the Meatpacking District, Made Fashion Week will be taking place. Highly anticipated designers such as the boys behind Public School NYC (who also happen to be winners of the CFDA Menswear Designer of the year award) will showcase their line away from happenings at Lincoln Center. Fashion Week is known for private shows and events, but that doesn’t mean all hope is lost if you haven’t received a golden ticket. We’re sharing a few tips on how to enjoy the week—with or without an invite!
Stay in the know
Many of the Mercedes Benz Fashion Week shows are invite-only, but that shouldn’t keep you from being in the know. A schedule of designers can be found on the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week website. Know which designers are hitting the runway and when. If you’d still like to be in on the action without an actual invite, try volunteering for one of the fashion houses. Volunteering during fashion week can include anything from dressing models to showing guests to their seats. Move quickly, spots are bound to fill up quickly!
Dress the part
In the days of The Sartorialist and street-style photography, your moment to shine off the runway can come on a New York City sidewalk. Be sure to look the part during the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week because there are hundreds of photographers looking to capture the best looks of the week—and being a model isn’t a prerequisite.
Keep a goodie bag
Fashion week is known to be a bit of frenzy– a good kind of frenzy. It’s important that you are able to keep up with everything that’s going on, but you have to be prepared. Whether you’re zipping around town to catch different shows or off to a chic dinner in the evening, be mindful of keeping your energy levels up. Remember to hydrate—both water and caffeine are essential! Carry a light snack in your bag for a quick fix in between shows. Don’t forget to keep your phone charged while you’re on the go, and for those long nights you might want to consider carrying one of these. Ladies, you might even want to throw in a pair of flats, only for the times when a mad dash is required, of course.
